Meet TERRY

I am a mid-life career-changer. I initially worked in the hotel business and I worked in several hotels in major cities across the US. I was fired from my last job as General Manager of a hotel when the property was sold. I returned to Houston, assessed my life, and decided to change things around quite a bit.
I went back to school and earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Houston, completed a three-year internship with a clinical psychologist, and sat for my licensure exam. I am a licensed psychotherapist (LPC) and I have been providing career-related services for nearly 30 years.
Over the course of my experience in the hospitality industry I interviewed several hundred candidates, and I hired dozens and dozens. I have been a candidate myself, and interviewed for many positions as well, so when it comes to job interviews I have experience from both sides of the desk.
I have learned a great deal over the years and I enjoy working with clients, continuing to learn and sharing that knowledge. I have won several awards for an internet job-search advice column that I hosted, and I currently post job search tips on LinkedIn. I present regarding career management to professional organizations and have served as a guest lecturer for the University of Houston and St. Thomas Graduate Counseling Programs.

I was laid off and, up to the point when I met Kathy and Terry, I had applied to over 150 [job] postings, without obtaining one single face to face interview. Terry was my advisor and after a few sessions, I had a new resume, an enhanced LinkedIn profile, and all the tools I needed to launch an aggressive and effective campaign to find a job that would match my skills and my salary expectations.

Career Transition & Investing in Career Advice

I had been in the workforce for over 30 years and had never invested in career advice and professional coaching. I had some help from my supervisors and the HR people in the various companies over the years, but these people were focused on what was best for the company and not what was best for me as a person.
I wanted a directional change in my career for the last portion of it and I considered various ways to go about it. In the end, I decided that I needed some help and that I was worth investing in. Secondly, I wanted someone who was working for me, who cared about me as a person and had my best interest in mind. Well, Terry Devlin fit that profile exactly! I After being out of the job market for 4 years, I needed a jump start on how to re-enter the work force. It was a difficult time as I had lost my wife a year earlier. I reached out to JOB, not really sure that they could really help.
Terry was assigned as my mentor / coach. He provided guidance through a rough time, personally as well as professionally.
